Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary in Bharatpur near Fatepur Sikri, Rajasthan, India is a famous avifauna sanctuary that welcomes thousands of birds, particularly during the wintertime season. Over 200 kinds of birds are known to be resident. It is also an important tourist centre with scores of ornithologists landing here in the season. It declared a protected park in 1971. It is also a World Heritage Site.
Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary – The park’s location in the Gangetic Plain delivers it a critical breeding site for storks, herons & cormorants, and an important wintering ground for vast numbers of migrant ducks. The most common waterfowl are gadwall, common teal, shoveler, tufted duck, cotton teal, knob-billed duck, great cormorant, little cormorant, Indian shag, ruff, painted stork, white spoonbill, oriental ibis, Asian open-billed stork, wood sandpiper, darter, common sandpiper and green sandpiper. The sarus crane, with its magnificent courtship dance, is also seen here.
